- I am looking for housing at short notice. What can I do to find something?
Register now and respond to the temporary and private rooms. They have a shorter waiting list than rooms in student complexes and in City-centre Buildings ("Stadspanden") and are immediately available.
- How long do I have to wait until I am able to get a room?
After registering, you can browse in the Currently Available ("Actueel aanbod") list of letting properties via your own personal page. This search machine will also enable you to look up the justification given for allocation of rooms or flats. If you indicate what type of accommodation you are looking for, the search machine will show the last ten allocations, which may help you estimate what your chances are. For independent housing via WoningNet, the waiting time is a minimum of 3 to 5 years.
- I am looking for independent housing, not a room. How can SSH help me?
Although our independent flats/apartments are generally allocated by WoningNet, we do allocate a number of our independent accommodations ourselves (smaller than 30 m2). You already have to be a SSH tenant. Are you looking for temporary furnished accomodation? On this website you will find more information about our Short Stay accomodations.
- I am now living in Maastricht. Do I have priority due to travel time?
No, you don't. Everyone has equal chances to get a room. If you're in urgent need of housing and have only recently registered, the best thing to do is respond to the temporary available rooms. These are most often rooms in houses that will be put down or renovated in the future. If you rent a temporary room in a building intended for demolition, you will be eligible for re-accommodation after this temporary contract. This is not the case after subletting.
- We would like to be in the same digs, is that possible?
We only have single rooms. It regularly happens that two rooms become available on the same floor. If you register at the same time, it should theoretically be possible to both end up on the same floor. However, we have a 'present yourself ' policy which gives the tenants on that floor the right to choose new housemates. So in practice, it is not likely to happen very often. There is no 'present yourself ' policy for temporary rooms. So, if you are going to take a temporary room, you can let us know by e-mail that you would like to propose someone as a fellow tenant for an empty room in the same house. We will then try to allocate the room accordingly. If you are planning to live together, a 'combi' or dual registration with SSH and WoningNet would be a good move, since in Utrecht it is WoningNet that offers independent housing that is suitable for two people.
- I am not (yet) a student at a University or Higher Education. Which rooms are suited for me?
A part of our rooms are only allocated to students at a University or Higher Education (Hbo). Are you not registered with either one of these? Then you can only apply for the following rooms: - Enny Vredelaan - Warande - temporary rooms in houses that will be put down or renovated - rooms with a private house owner - subletted rooms
We always mention the conditions that apply to a room when we advertise it.
