When living in close proximity, people are likely to become irritated with each other. Unfortunately this cannot always be avoided. However, it does help if you try to make certain agreements to consider each other; sometimes annoyance and irritation have to do with ignorance. For instance, does the person involved actually know you are annoyed? Why don't you have a chat with that person, it often helps.
However, sometimes trying to come to some agreement with each other doesn't work, or perhaps one party does not keep to what was arranged. If the housemates involved do not manage to find some solution, SSH can mediate in the conflict. However, we do expect you to take an active role in trying to find a solution to the problem.
If people in the neighbourhood find the behaviour of you and your housemates objectionable, we will base whatever action we take on the observations made by the police. If the police has found any of our tenants have been causing a disturbance on a regular basis, we will take the matter up with them. If the situation does not improve, the result may be that we will end the rental contract with the parties involved.
In exceptional cases, in case of very serious disturbance, the public prosecutor can terminate a (house)party. In this case, the chances are great that we will go directly to court to request the annulment of the rental contract of all occupants of the unit on the basis of 'breach of good tenancy'.
It is also important to be aware that you are the one who is responsible for your guests. If you are not causing a disturbance but your guest is, we will still hold you responsible.
