Saving Energy

You can easily save energy yourself with these tips:

Energy-saving bulbs

Approximately one sixth of the electricity consumption of an average household goes towards the lighting. This can be reduced by simply replacing the bulbs with energy-saving ones which use 5 times less energy and last longer. They used to be big, awkward and shone sharply, but the modern energy-saving bulb looks just like an ordinary one.

Stand-by position

When you aren't using your computer, it automatically switches to the stand-by position after a while. But it still uses energy. This is easily remedied by turning off the computer when you are not using it. Even for one hour's break, it's worth doing. It is a myth that turning the computer on and off damages it.

Loaders

Loaders for mobiles, for instance, also have a sort of stand-by position. When a loader is plugged in without the phone attached, or with a full battery, it can also use energy. You feel when you touch the loader: it is warm. Saving energy is simple, just unplug the loader when the battery is full.

Washing

Doing the washing costs water and electricity. There are several ways of saving energy, such as washing at the lowest possible temperature. Washing at 60 ºC uses twice as much energy as at 40 ºC, even though most detergents work just as well at 40 ºC. Filling the drum to capacity also saves energy.

Heating

Approximately 75% of the electricity consumption of an average household goes towards the heating. How can you save on that? If you put the heating one degree lower during the day, you'll already save 7% of your energy consumption for heating. Another tip is to put the heat down about an hour before you go to bed. The room is sure to stay warm for that hour.
